John Lee points to impacting the local area in a positive way as the most rewarding aspect of his career. When Lee Motor Group was moving the dealership location to another part of town, there was over ten acres, multiple buildings and automotive equipment that was adjacent to Wilson Community College. John Lee had a vision for this space to be utilized for the community and gifted the property to the College, which later became the Lee Technology Center. With this gift, Wilson Community College was able to expand their Automotive, Applied Engineering, Building Construction, HVAC and Electrical programs and house their Small Business Center. Wilson Academy of Applied Technology is also now housed on the property. The Lee Technology Center campus is now complete and will continue to serve the community in a number of important ways for years to come.
A few other important community efforts that John holds close to his heart are Barton College, Baptist Children's Homes of NC, and CCA
John Lee attended and graduated from Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College, in May 1982, during which time he was running the Ford dealership after the passing of his father. Barton College provides the community with employment and an education, and John has served as a trustee for over 30 years and as Chairfrom the years of 2016-2021, as he hopes to give back to an organization he appreciates immensely.
Baptist Children's Homes of NC has been helping children for over 130 years, providing foster care, adoption services, outreach to families in crisis, services for the disabled and so much more. John Lee is currently serving his second tenure as Chair of Trustees of BCH. John and his wife, Lynn, have also been involved in CCAI for many years. CCAI focuses on adoption and orphan care in Belize, Bulgaria, China, Columbia, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the United States. The nonprofit organization has brought over 13,000 children to forever homes and helped over 100,000 orphans over the last 30 years. To read more about CCAI, visit https://ccaifamily.org/.
John and Lynn have a daughter, Luisa, who currently attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in their honors program. The family has a passion for youth, education, and the outdoors. Their commitment to these carries over into their recently-formed John, Lynn & Luisa Lee Family Foundation.
The John, Lynn & Luisa Lee Family Foundation has a special interest in Eastern North Carolina and will focus on making gifts and grants to educational and religious institutions, and other charitable organizations, that care, protect, preserve, and develop children, the environment, and wildlife. Scholarships for higher education will also be available based on need and/or merit.
Through the Foundation and many other ways, the Lee family hopes to make an impact through the Foundation for many, many years to come.
